The Accounting Careers Awareness Program Giving minority students a chance to explore business and accounting The Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP-Ohio) is sponsored by The Ohio Society of CPAs and the Ohio chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants. This week-long summer enrichment program has two simple goals: 1. To encourage minority high school students to acquire the educational background they need to major in accounting or business in college. 2. To promote the awareness of careers in business, accounting and as a CPA through the participation adn volunteer time of minority role models. The innovative program, held at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, lets students explore the accounting profession and learn first-hand what opportunities await them if they choose to become a CPA or enter the business world after college. Students who participate in ACAP-Ohio gain real-world experiences during informative workshops, interactive discussions, facility tours and one-on-one mentoring sessions with minority accounting and business professionals. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to compete for college scholarships. "For these students to give up a week in their summer is something we thank them for," said J. Clarke Price, CAE, president and CEO of The Ohio Society of CPAs. "The Ohio Society wants them to come away from this experience knowing what opportunities exist for them if they enter the accounting profession." ACAP-Ohio is a fully supervised, all-expense-paid program made possible through the support of corporate sponsorships and grants.
